Zion's Local Missions

Compassion York

Churches in the York area work together to prepare and serve meals at two different locations on Sunday evenings.  4 times a year Zion helps with this mission.  This is an outreach for all ages, and families are encouraged to come and share in this Zion Mission.  Donations of personal care items are also collected and destributed to families in York as part of this mission.

Election Day Cafe

Zion is a community polling place during the elections.  We offer coffee and donuts to voters in the morning and drinks and snacks in the afternoon and evening.  Tables are set up so voters can sit and eat their snack and talk to the cafe' hosts if they choose.

Feed the Hungry                                                    Canned food items are collected and donated to The Salvation Army, the Rescue Mission, and The WELL.

Pizza Lunch

West York H.S. allows their juniors and seniors to leave the campus for lunch. Every Thursday we open our Christian Life Center and offer Pizza and Christian music videos on the wide screen. This gives us a wonderful opportunity to build relationships with teens that may otherwise never walk into our church.

Prayer Ministry

God has called each of us to pray.  At Zion, we pray as individuals and also as a community of believers. Our prayer ministry takes on many forms.  We have prayer partners, prayer chains, weekly prayer service, prayer vigils, as well as many other times of prayer.

Shelly Park

This is a summer program free for local children K-6th grade.  This program is sponsored by Zion UM church.  Children must be registered to participate.  The Shelly Park playground program is faith-based and will be led by staff from Zion Church.  However, every child will be included and welcome in an inclusive program.

Soup Kitchen
The soup kitchen offers breakfast and lunch at Our Daily Bread Monday-Friday to all who come.  Zion Church prepares goulash and serves a meal to patrons on the 4th Wednesday of every other month.

Sycamore Place
Sycamore Place is an after school ministry to teenagers in grades 7 through 12. It takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm in the youth suite and the CLC. There are snacks, games, a pool table and an air hockey table. We have computers for the kids to do homework on and basketball in the gym.
The Well
The WELL provides emergency food, clothes, prescription help and household items to needy people in the west end of York.  There are two ways to support the WELL:  volunteering and giving. Volunteers are needed Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM to sort clothes, fill grocery bags, answer the phone, stock shelves or file.  The second way to help is by giving food, personal items or necessities.

Y ork Rescue Mission                                           The York Rescue Mission meets human needs while proclaiming the gospel and making disciples of Jesus Christ.  Their outreach includes ministries to and shelters for men, women and children, and seniors.  They operate an economy store and participate in many community events.

Zion's Quilting Ministry                                   The Zion Quilting Ministry evolved when a group of quilters and non-quilters decided to make handmade blankets for those in need.  Our ministry has made and donated over 40 blankets to York Hospital, Hershey Medical Center and the Margaret Moul Home. Komfy Kids has received 37 blankets to be placed in their Komfy Korner for children who are undergoing medical treatments.  We feel our ministry is importnt as it provides love and comfort for those who receive them.
